I’m a cinematographer, colorist, and editor located in Sydney, Australia. My first foray into production was watching my Dad in the late 80’s. He traveled the world on documentaries, built studios, edit suites, OB vans, and seemingly had a lot a fun doing it.
I just though it was boring. Take after take after take. I didnt get it.
He used me a few times in videos which was more fun then sitting around watching. Around this time I started dabbling with editing using his VHS dubbing room. I would take my favorite extreme snow skiing films and cut them up to my own music manually using two VHS players. I grew up on Director Greg Stump and his music based ski ficks. Bad boys like Glen Plake and Scott Schmidt with classic pop from Roxy Music and Franky Goes to Hollywood. Edgier then Warren Miller, al be it not as commercially successful. But music was my passion at this time. I started playing guitar after seeing Michael J Fox rip it up on a guitar in Back to The Future. I started writing music and was part of a band for years after that first formed in high school. Thank you 80’s!
Fast forward to the 2000’s and I was getting tired of my 18 year IT career. The DSLR revolution was just kicking off the Canon 5D was turning heads. I did the typical “New Dad” thing when your first kid is born I bought a DSLR camera to capture everything!. A mate in the industry at the time said “..you know that’s got a 1080p video option. You should flick it over to video and give it a go”. READ MORE
